MARK NEWCOMB TO PRESENT SNOW NIGHT, MARCH 15

Jackson, Wyoming — January 17, 2007 — The 2007 Alpinist Film Festival is pleased to announce Mark Newcomb as the featured presenter for Snow Night. Newcomb, a renowned skier and alpinist, will present The Line, his “adventure biography.” The Line, by Rattlecan Productions, follows Newcomb from his home in Jackson, Wyoming, to the 8000-meter Himalayan giant Shishapangma, which he attempts to ski with a small group of friends.

“The Festival not only showcases the best of adventure filmmaking from around the world; it also brings together our community,” said Festival Director and Founder Christian Beckwith. “Mark Newcomb is a perfect presenter for the 2007 Alpinist Film Festival. Not only is he among the best ski mountaineers in the world, he’s also a Jackson native in the truest of senses.”

Mr. Newcomb, born and raised in Jackson, Wyoming, is part owner and Senior Guide of Exum Mountain Guides. His accomplishments include three separate first descents of the Grand Teton within a three-year period, the first ski descent of the Black Ice Couloir and the first ascent of Sepu Kangri in Tibet. He is also a guide for Geographic Expeditions and an avalanche course instructor for the American Avalanche Institute, which his father founded.

Snow Night, the opening night of The Alpinist Film Festival, takes place on March 15th at The Center for the Arts in Jackson, Wyoming. The night will be dedicated to the memory of the late Doug Coombs, also of Jackson, Wyoming, who last year was Snow Night’s opening presenter.

“As a personal friend of Doug’s, Mark will help us in our tribute to our late friend,” said Beckwith. “Doug wouldn’t want the affair to be a somber one; he’d want a celebration. There’s no one better for that job than Mark.”

The 2007 Alpinist Film Festival takes place March 15-17th at The Center for the Arts in Jackson, Wyoming. Snow Night will kick off the Festival on March 15th. Tickets will soon be available through The Center for the Arts and can be purchased through their box office and online by visiting the Center’s website at www.jhcenterforthearts.org.
