“The Festival was brought about not only for the showcasing of the best of adventure filmmaking, but also to bring together the community of Jackson,” said Festival Director and Founder Christian Beckwith. “Mark Newcomb is a perfect presenter for the 2007 Alpinist Film Festival, as not only is he easily among the best in the world of skiing, but he’s also a Jackson native in the truest of all senses.”
Mr. Newcomb, born and raised in Jackson, Wyoming, is part owner and Senior Guide of Exum Mountain Guides. Among his accomplishments include three separate first descents of Jackson’s Grand Teton within a three-year time period, the first combined descent of the Grand, Middle and South Teton in one day, car-to-car, skiing the 25,000ft. Shishapangma in the Himalayas, and many others. He is also a guide for Geographic Expeditions and an avalanche course instructor for the American Avalanche Institute, which his father founded.
Snow Night, a night within the Alpinist Film Festival dedicated to adventure skiing films, takes place on March 15th at The Center for the Arts in Jackson, Wyoming. The night will be dedicated to the memory of the late Doug Coombs, also of Jackson, Wyoming.
“As a personal friend to Doug, and being a great presenter, Mr. Newcomb will help the Alpinist Film Festival in its dedication to our late friend,” said Beckwith. “As Mark and I both know, Doug would not want the affair to be a somber one, but rather a celebration, and there’s no one better for the job than Mark.”
