The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has announced a ban on climbing that includes 400 acres of land and more than 40 established climbs at Castle Rocks in southern Idaho. The affected areas are located in the Castle Rocks Interagency Recreation Area, which is northwest of Castle Rocks State Park.
The ban was enacted after a recent field survey called attention to historically and culturally significant resources in the area. The BLM determined that the climbing ban was necessary to preserve these resources. In response, The Access Fund plans to rally a letter-writing campaign and appeal the decision before the deadline at the end of April.
