Today on forums such as mountainproject.com and supertopo.com, rumors are circulating that climbing legend Jim Bridwell has died. For a moment, we at Alpinist were astounded–having worked closely with Bridwell on numerous projects including “Bird’s Eye View,” a retrospective on his climbing life, in Issue 18.
Upon phoning him, someone answered. And when his distinctive voice told us, “My phone got disconnected, but I’m definitely not dead”–we were certain no one could be such a fine imposter.
