On August 2, 2008, the expedition Czechoslovakia-2008, led by Mihail Kleslo, made a successful ascent of the highest unclimbed peak in the Russian Pamir: Korumdy East (6384m).
Less than a week later, on August 8, a five-member Russian Team–Michail Volkov, Nikholay Sinushin, Maxim Pankov, Andrey Satanin and Alexander Novikov–summited Peak Chiringyad (5864m) in the seldom-visited Yazgulemskiy range of the Western Pamir. They climbed the 1989 route that ascends the center of the west face (Russian 6B), likely making the third ascent of the peak. Volkov, Sinushin and Pankov descended to advanced base camp at 5500m while Satanin and Novikov chose to bivy up high. The pair aims to climb the neighboring peak, Woodoor (6132m).
